Who We Are
Who are the people who are members of Ananda Center of Tucson? We’re just like you. We come from all walks of life, various ethnic and cultural backgrounds, some of us work while others are retired. We come from various religious traditions — several of whom still actively practice theirs. Yet we share a common desire to find the deeper meaning of life and actively strive to know God as a real and loving presence in our daily lives.
We follow the non-sectarian teachings of Paramhansa Yogananda, a great spiritual master who brought meditation and Kriya Yoga to the West. We find that Yogananda’s teachings, as shared by his direct disciple, Swami Kriyananda, provide practical tools for — and tremendous insights into — the search for happiness and joy.
Whether you are simply looking for some practical tools to reduce stress, want to learn more about developing a healthier lifestyle, or are seeking answers to life’s questions, please stop by the Center or Contact Us — we would love to meet you!
The Ananda Meditation Group in Tucson started in December 1996 with two persons who had visited The Expanding Light Yoga and Meditation Retreat and wanted to have a group for meditation.
From 1998 to 2001 it was held in Green Valley (about nearly an hour south of Tucson) and reorganized in Tucson in 2002. After years of meeting in homes, community buildings, libraries, and borrowing space from friends’ businesses, a building was purchased in 2009 which gave us the much needed space and vibration for our classes, services and satsang.
